The VW T2A/B is a rare transitional model, combining the front end of the T2A with the rear of the T2B, making it particularly desirable among air-cooled VW enthusiasts.
The example we currently have on offer was acquired in California, where it was registered on a salvage title after being stripped of engine and gearbox. Despite this, the solid condition of its body makes it a remarkable find and an excellent candidate for restoration.
Most of the beige paint is still factory original, and the body is in exceptionally solid shape for its age. Rust damage is minimal and limited to typical areas, including the front floor sections, battery tray, and a small section of the floor under the middle seat mount. While the body does show minor dents, there is more significant damage at the left rear corner and the front of the right rear wheel well. The nose section also needs to be brought back to its former shape.
For enthusiasts of patina, the weathered look of this bus could be preserved, while those seeking perfection would prefer to restore it completely with a fresh respray.
The interior needs to be completely renovated. It is missing the instrument cluster, keys and spare wheel. A good locksmith should be able to fabricate a key from the number stamped on the ignition lock.
An engine and gearbox will need to be sourced to return this bus to driving condition, though some engine parts are included (check the pictures for further details).
This is a fantastic opportunity to acquire a solid bay window project at an unbeatable price.
