1962 Volvo P1800 Jensen

This early Volvo P1800 was built in december 1961 and delivered to its first owner in California, USA. It left the factory in red with a black interior. We shipped it out of southern California 62 years later as a rusty project car, and can only guess what happened in the years in between.

The body tub shows severe rust damage and will require extensive restoration work. Thick layers of body filler are present on the right front fender and upper nose section (uncovering an old collision damage), the rear valence panel and lower fenders and sill panels (covering up rust damage). Further rust damage was found in the interior and trunk floor panels and chassis beam sections.

At some point in the past, the original engine was replaced with a more powerful B20 power unit. This engine turns by hand, but would obviously need to be rebuilt. The car has an early type gearbox with overdrive. For what it is worth, current mileage sits at 51.392.

The P1800’s interior needs to be completely renovated. Some of the early Jensen trim is missing, most noticeably the steering wheel, one of the gauges and some of the outer body trimming. Furthermore, this Volvo has one early P1800 Jensen wheel and 4 later type steel wheels.

This is definetely going to be a challenging project, but also a rare chance to restore one of the most collectible classic Volvo’s.
