This 1963 Sunbeam Alpine Series 2 was acquired in Tennessee. Its last long-term owners were a couple who used the car for date nights until 1982, when it was last registered. After decades in storage, the car was passed on to a local resident, who sold it to us a few years later. The little sports car has survived well and is an excellent candidate for restoration.
Originally delivered in light blue, the car was painted red in the 1970’s. An old cash slip for ‘paint’ was found in the armrest console. The Alpine’s body is mostly solid, but will need repair work in the obvious areas: floor boards, right rear panel just behind the outer sill panel and in a small area on the lower rear valence, below the rear bumper. Outer sill panels show old body work and would need to be replaced. Inner sill panels appear solid. Some cracked bondo is visible on the right front fender.
The Sunbeam’s engine turns by hand. We have not made an attempt to start it, but were told it last ran only a few years ago. Standard 4-speed gearbox. 75.519 mls on the odometer.
Being mostly complete, the Sunbeam Alpine might be missing a few small trim items. All parts pictured are included with the sale. The windscreen is cracked and should be replaced.
This restoration project is an excellent starting point to creating a perfect, as-new Sunbeam Alpine.
