1971 Volkswagen T2A microbus red

This late-model VW T2A was purchased at auction from an insurance company following fire damage. The fire originated externally, resulting in the complete destruction of the interior and all window glass. Despite the damage, we believe this is still very much a restorable bus.

Originally manufactured in Germany for the US market as a Type 22 Deluxe 7-seater microbus,  the two middle seats have been taken out and are missing.

For VW enthusiasts, the primary consideration when acquiring an air-cooled bus is the condition of its body. We found no rust damage on this bus, though the lower rear panels behind the sills show signs of previous repairs. While the underside exhibits typical surface rust, it’s evident that this T2 has likely spent its life in California’s mild climate.

Regarding the fire damage, heat deformation is confined to the roof panel, necessitating either replacement or careful restoration to its original shape.

The engine was removed either before or after the fire and is not included, though the keys are still available.

This is an interesting project car for those with either a large parts inventory, or a really rusty donor T2A bus.
