With its bold, retro-futuristic design, the fourth-generation Chevrolet Corvette stands as a true icon of 1980s American performance. Subtlety takes a back seat to its wide tires, loud V8, and distinctive digital dashboard. Still relatively affordable, the C4 Corvette offers one of the best performance-to-price ratios in the classic car market—though values are steadily on the rise.
We recently revived this neglected red Corvette, which had been parked with water in the fuel tank. After flushing the tank, replacing the fuel filter, and installing a new battery, the V8 engine roared back to life. The car starts, runs, drives, and stops—but it will require additional mechanical attention.
A thorough recommissioning service is recommended, as no service records are available. The most notable mechanical issue is a broken left rear brake caliper mounting bracket (see photos for reference). All four tires are aged and due for replacement; the right rear tire also has a slow leak.
The odometre reading is 101.791 mls. A recent VIN report shows no mileage increases since 1997 and a last California emission inspection (passed) in 2003. No damage records.
Cosmetically, the car will need a complete sanding and full body repaint. The window seals are worn and need replacement, as does the cracked windshield. Light damage to the floor boards was caused by forklift handling at the port.
The interior needs to be renovated. The leather seat upholstery is worn and carpets have faded. Also, the digital instrument cluster does not work. The same goes for the electric windows.
