1994 Jaguar XJS 4.0 convertible

This red on tan Jaguar XJS was acquired in the state of New Hampshire, USA. With little over 52.000 mls on the odometre and 3 registered owners, the car has not been in regular use since 2009 and will need a thorough recommissioning service.

Optically, the car is in presentable condition, with typical traces of use. The exterior has had one repaint in its original colour (flamenco red metallic) and shows a nice glossy finish. Small touch ups and minor scratches can be seen upon closer look. On the underside, there are no signs of rust damage or previous repairs, although surface rust is visible on suspension parts.

The Jaguar starts, runs and drives. The check engine light is on and the car runs in limp mode, with OBD error code P0706 (transmission range sensor A circuit range / performance). This would require further diagnosis and repair.

Other defects found are sticky brakes that need rebuild work and a non-operational convertible top mechanism (likely an electronic problem, since the pump does not make any sound and has sufficient fluid level).

Other than an old lubrication sticker (next service due at 53.636 mls) the service history is unknown. A VIN report is available, showing logically ascending mileage entries and no previous accident history.

Everything under the bonnet looks stock. We gave the car a basic oil and filter change before a first start. The air and fuel filters have also been replaced.

The interior is in decent original condition and shows some age appropriate wear. The plastic sunvisor clamps have turned brittle and some of the plastic covers of the seats have cracked. The canvas soft top shows wear at the edge on the driver’s side, probably caused by the window glass touching it repeatedly.

The car comes with two keys, which do not work on the boot lid lock. Original radio. Factory booklets are included.

A well-preserved modern classic. With a bit of practical effort, this Jaguar XJS can be put back on the road.
